About this camp

The IMPACT Engineering Experience at UIC College of Engineering offers high school students an immersive, hands-on introduction to mechanical and industrial engineering. Participants engage in intensive modules covering topics such as rapid prototyping, automotive engineering, applied AI, fluid dynamics, and smart manufacturing. Students work in state-of-the-art facilities like the Engineering Design Lab, Fluids Dynamics Lab, and CAD design studio, utilizing rapid prototyping tools to build, code, and fabricate solutions to complex challenges. The curriculum emphasizes bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application through hands-on experimentation. The program also provides exclusive access to the UIC Engineering campus, including guided tours of active research labs and the UIC Makerspace, offering a comprehensive view of an undergraduate engineering career.

Through team-based projects, students develop skills in fabrication, logic, and design. They learn to reverse engineer, construct electronic logic gates, experiment with hydraulic systems to engineer robotic manipulators, and apply Lean Six Sigma principles to design automated manufacturing processes. The camp aims to foster problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaborative skills, preparing students for future academic and professional journeys in engineering.

What a typical day looks like
