Campers get to design, build, and program their own motorized battle robots and compete in an arena using LEGO® Mindstorms and LEGO Technic pieces.
In the St. Ignatius College Preparatory Battle Bots Camp, campers will engage in hands-on activities to design, build, and program motorized battle robots. Using LEGO® Mindstorms and LEGO Technic pieces, students will learn fundamental concepts of robot construction, including gear systems, motorized mechanisms, and basic programming. The camp culminates in a 'battle arena' competition where campers test their creations in tasks such as sumo-wrestling, obstacle courses, and head-to-head combat. Students will gain skills in engineering, problem-solving, and creative design while prototyping new robot designs and utilizing mechanical lifts, drills, and ramps to overcome opponents. No prior experience in robotics is necessary, making it an ideal introduction to the field.
A typical day involves learning robot construction fundamentals, assembling and wiring a beginner battle bot, and practicing driving it in the arena, followed by prototyping new designs and competing in various challenges.
This camp is best for middle school students (rising 5th-8th graders) who are curious about robotics, enjoy hands-on building, and are excited by friendly competition.
