The UIC College of Engineering Summer Camp offers participants a dynamic, hands-on exploration of various engineering disciplines. Students engage in team-based challenges and projects developed by UIC Engineering faculty and graduate students in real research labs. Activities may include writing computer code, working with robotics, biomechanics, 3D printing, rapid prototyping, renewable energy, product design, aerodynamics, and structures and safety. The camp aims to develop foundational skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and engineering problem-solving. Participants will gain an understanding of college life in an engineering program, including learning styles and expectations. Rising 11th and 12th-grade students receive additional college preparation tips and campus/lab tours, offering a glimpse into future academic and professional journeys. The program emphasizes design under constraints, data-driven decision-making, professionalism, and college readiness.

What a typical day looks like

A typical day involves morning drop-off, followed by project and design challenges, a lunch break at the UIC Student Center East cafeteria, and more project work and design challenges in the afternoon before pickup.
