The UIUC WYSE Digital Scholars Program in Chicago is an intensive summer program designed for high school and first-year college students. The program focuses on building computing skills, increasing college and career readiness, and connecting students with Chicago's tech community. Participants have the opportunity to enroll in college-level coursework in areas such as Data Science Discovery, Exploring Electrical and Computer Engineering, Foundations of Computer Science & Coding, iOS App Design, or Programming in Swift. The curriculum includes daily talks with tech entrepreneurs, technologists, business strategists, and civic leaders, as well as weekly workshops on topics like artificial intelligence, machine learning, entrepreneurship, and data science. The program aims to provide hands-on experience and expose students to various career paths in the tech industry, fostering communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Students engage every morning, Monday-Thursday, with guest speakers from the tech community who share their personal and professional journeys, providing insight into real-world applications of computing and data science. Fridays are dedicated to experiential workshops that delve deeper into various tech economy topics.
This program is ideal for rising 11th and 12th graders, as well as incoming college freshmen, who are interested in building computing skills, exploring tech careers, and connecting with Chicago's tech community.
